It all started with two CD-ROM's…
In 2000, Ed had the opportunity to start his own business. He was tech savvy, loved computers, and saw that they were becoming increasingly important in business and in life. With limited resources he started in an office in his home. Two CD ROM's were purchased and resold and Sunset Computers was born.
Within a few years he had moved to the spare bedroom, lined it with shelves to hold parts and ran cabling to support the three work stations. Son Aron followed in dad’s footsteps and joined the business as well.
An opportunity to purchase equipment from a large warehouse accelerated the next level of growth for the company. Storage in the basement and garage was full so a nearby hall was rented and 9 staff were soon busy rebuilding systems as demand for affordable equipment grew. SARCAN Recycling also began a program for electronics, providing a place for the parts that were at the end of their life. Sunset Computers knew the importance of proper disposal and this met their need.
2010 brought more growth and it was apparent we needed more space so plans were drawn up to build a 36 x 50 building adjacent to the garage. Finding the right style of workstations with high weight capacity and in the right size/configurations was a challenge, but Ed was not discouraged. This innovative entrepreneur pulled out his carpenter belt and his MIG welder, designed and built custom desks with laminated tops that would withstand tools and the challenges of the workday. These pieces are in high demand by anyone who sees them, particularly those in agriculture, construction, etc.
The list of services provided by Sunset Computers is extensive. Need computer sales and repair? We have you covered as an Authorized Lenovo dealer. If that doesn’t work, we can literally build what you need. Outgrown one computer and now need workstations with servers? We can do that too! WIFI, wired internet or rural internet? Website with custom domain and email? Yes that too!
Sunset Computers also provides rural high speed internet options as they are an authorized dealer for Xplore. We also provide leasing services for businesses who require an option to direct purchasing.
Sunset Computers believes strongly in giving back to the community. In and around Weyburn, we have quietly been providing those at a disadvantage with very low cost, reliable computing systems. There are many single parent families, people with varying abilities and those with low income or receiving financial aid who have a computer in their home from Sunset Computers. This desire to help others is and has always been the guiding philosophy for us, and a core reason why we started the business. We also work with many non profit organizations to provide affordable solutions for them. Now serving the Estevan area! Check us out!
Customers are as close as the neighbors down the street, to half way around the world in the Philippines. The “Remote Support Tool” on our website allows us to, in the words of a student “reach through the wires and help me with my computer”. If you happen by the shop between the hours of midnight and 8am, you will generally see the lights on as Ed is likely on the phone and online with someone half a world away needing some help during their business day.
Sunset Computers – on the road to you, and over the airwaves too!
